I saw an ad for Sleeping Dogs a while back and was intrigued, so I watched enough playthrough to decide. The chase scenes and Batman-style beat 'em up action do look damn fun, the atmosphere and soundtrack are great, and it's encouraging to hear that the difficulty is reasonable. Sad to say, the script was a huge letdown for me. I had hoped for more depth in the story and characters, more show-don't-tell veracity in the dialog. What I saw felt more like an outline of what the developers were going for. (This mission will build sympathy with your triad friends! The police will then question your loyalties!) There's also cornball shit that felt out of place in a purportedly srs bsness narrative. I would have to primarily get into Sleeping Dogs for the gameplay, but the action movie elements look fun enough that it might end up being a nice cheap future purchase.
